As a young kid (10 years old) growing up in upstate, NY I not only dreamed of going to Yankee stadium but to actually meet one or both of my heros, Micky Mantle and Roger Maris. Then the dream bomb was dropped, my father was taking myself and my 2 brothers to Yankee Stadium to watch a double header. We arrived at the stadium and I talked my dad into letting me go near the duggout for a chance at an autograph. My heart sunk when I saw Micky walk away but was thrilled to see Roger walking my way. He was only 3 kids from me when he turned and started for the field. Why I said what I did I will never know but I actually yelled at Roger saying," Roger Maris! Don't you dare walk away with out shaking my hand!!" Roger turned his head and looked right at me and then broke out with a smile, turned my way, walked up to me and grabbed my hand with both of his and with out saying a word he gave me a wink and off he went. Thank You Roger for giving me a memory that I have cherished for 43 years.
