Vintage Police Cars Line-Up In NYC
Police cars of days gone by- as gone by as 1919- lined up the Intrepid Sea. Air and Space Museum in New York City for a unique, one day only exhibit of cars used by Police Departments from New York State, the NYPD, California Highway Patrol and even the Chicago Police Department.
From a 1919 Ford used by the New York State Police, a beautiful 1952 Imperial that has seen many ticker tape parades in its retirement days, to the classic blue cars of the NYPD of the 70's and 80's. the exhibit included a representation of cars from Police departments throughout the country.
Some of the main attractions were
4-A 1959 Edsel Corsair, a hard top police cruiser from Jefferson County, Colorado built in 1958 for $3,726!
5-An exact replica of a 1969 Los Angeles Police cruiser, a Plymouth Belvedere. Adam 12?
6-A Blues Brother related Dodge Monaco from 1974, the "Police Special"
7-A 1968 Plymouth Satellite Police car from the Delaware State Police.
8,9-The dreaded orange and blue New York State cop car- seen here with another extinct fellow, the Concorde and the NYPD cars from the 70'a and 80's
The show also included the ultimate police car, a Batmobile- even real NYPD cops of the present couldn't resist posing for pictures next to it.
Beautifully restored, and some of the cars were dedicated to the memory of fallen officers,
The event took place at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in New York, on Sunday, June 13, 2010.
