    Why:
The primary responsibility for the development and well-being of children lies within the family. The family is the foundation on which every child builds to create healthy relationships and learn to function as an adult in society.  As adults we display and direct our lives in correlation to our upbringing.  We cannot overestimate the influence of strong families in societies.  But, many current social factors weaken family and compromise its future.  The Family Symposium will promote greater understanding, love, responsibility, and overall strengthening of families and cause to buoy up the spirit of those who are in support of strong, righteous families.

About The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its view on Family:

In every era that has been or is to come, the family is the foundation of all strong societies and must be safeguarded by those who know this sacred truth.
Commonly referred to as “the Mormon church,” with a mostly misinformed and misunderstood history, the Church provides a comprehensive personal and family-development program on a daily basis by using scripture and the modern word of God through prophets to direct its path; a path which concurs with the teachings of the Bible on supporting the family.  The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (www.lds.org) has more than 76,000 members in Georgia alone.  Georgia’s 151 congregations are just a fraction of the 14 million members serving the Lord and our brothers and sisters worldwide by strengthening families and societies.

The Church is the only one in the world to bridge the gap between pre-mortal, mortal, and eternal families which starts with Family History and leads to the LDS Temple where families are bonded for time and all eternity. LDS members who have made a covenant to live the highest of God’s laws perform sacred ordinances in the Temple that are the same as those performed for others of the Christian faith such as baptisms and marriages, but whose bond does not end at death.  The public is invited to start their own family bridge by visiting the 43 Family History centers around Georgia as well as www.FamilySearch.org.  The Atlanta LDS Temple is the only one in Georgia and is currently closed for refurbishing.  There will be an Open House announced in 2011 to which the public will be invited.  It will be a rare opportunity to view a local temple similar to the other 133 temples around the world that were built using instructions given by the Lord to King Solomon with practicality for the modern world.

Key doctrines of the Church on family, which are based on the primitive church of Jesus Christ, state that human beings are beloved children of heavenly parents, and, as such, have a divine nature and destiny, that all children have the right to good and loving earthly parents as well, that marriage between a man and a woman is sacred and central to the Creator’s plan, and that the Lord’s plan of happiness can be enjoyed on this earth especially through family relations.
