Your baseball heroes |
Craig Biggio
I took my dad to Spring Training in 2007 for his 65th birthday. We had a great time watching games and practices with our favorite team, the Houston Astros. My all-time favorite Astro, and I've been watching him since I was a kid, is Craig Biggio. I was determined to find Biggio and have him autograph my jersey. After a game at Osceola County Stadium, I waited out near the player's parking lot for two hours hoping to get him to stop as he left the stadium. My dad was inside the stadium getting up close and personal with many of the players and getting autographs from them. After two hours of waiting, Biggio drove out of the parking lot, and I waved my jersey as he drove by. He smiled, pointed and waved, but there was a small crowd so he didn't stop. When we were back at the stadium for practices the next day, I camped out at the player's parking lot again hoping to catch him. After another two hours, I was about to give up when he arrived. He stopped and rolled down his window and signed the jersey for me. I was so excited that I didn't really say what I wanted to say (thanking him for so many great years, etc.), but I did tell him what a big fan I am and got to shake his hand. He was an all-around nice guy and even posed for a picture with me. Since 2007 turned out to be the year that he hit 3,000 and retired, having that jersey autographed that day with my dad there at my side meant so much more to me. Thanks Bigg!
