    New Orleans' own MechaCon

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     TommyYune was in New Orleans this weekend for MechaCon, a smaller convention focused on anime and pop culture. 'It’s very folksy and very accessible. Everybody seems to know each other. San Diego Comic-Con once upon a time was like that before it got ridiculously huge,' he said.

While most eyes are focused on San Diego's Comic-Con this week, New Orleans just wrapped Louisiana's very own 6th annual MechaCon. Focused on anime and pop culture, this fast growing convention has just moved from its native town of Lafayette to New Orleans right next to the French Quarter for the first time this year and has now become the largest event of its kind in the state. According to co-founder Jon Russo, bringing events such as MechaCon to New Orleans is a proud reflection of region's spirit of reconstruction.
