Kalamazoo River Oil Spill Update
"We produce cereal here," she said. "Normally you smell Corn Flakes, Cocoa Puffs or Fruity Pebbles. This morning you could actually smell cereal and oil, which is a unique combination."
She said her neighbor had 10 oiled geese in his yard. Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm toured the area by helicopter on Tuesday and said the spill "cannot be taken lightly."

I went to Bridge Park today which is about 3 to 4 miles upriver from my home. The Kalamazoo River which runs through the park had 840,000 of crude oil spilt into it courtesy of Enbridge Energy Partners. The spill site is actually 3 to 4 miles further upriver. My neighbor went up there and said there is 3 to 4 inches of crude on top of the water.
The park is a favorite hangout for my husband, myself and our 2 dogs Thor and Athena. We go there every couple of weeks to take a walk with the dogs and do photography. Our usual parking spots were filled with trucks so I parked off to the side and figured I would work my way up the path. We got out and start taking photos.
Less than 10 minutes had gone by when we were met by 5 very nice police officer who informed us that the park was closed.
We returned to our car and left the park. So we snapped a couple of photos as we passed out of the park.
We snapped photos of the river from a road overpass and then headed for downtown Battle Creek. We went to MIll Park where there is a flock of geese and a pair of swans. None were found...
We returned home and one of my neighbors told me there were 10 geese in his yard. So we went and took pictures of them....
The Department of Natural Resource is not allowing rescuers to work due to high levels of benzene which is leaving a lot of us Michigan citizens ticked off.
The govenor - ticked off at the oil company...
The President of the US ... aware of the situation...
On the way back from the geese - CERT was putting up signs to stay out of the water....
Now if they could just do something about the scent of oil in the air...
Watch out Lake Michigan... and we were worried about the Chinese Carp taking over...
Oh and tommorow... EPA arrives along with Coast Guard, and Fema.... It should be an interesting day.
