Too Hot to Fly Part 1, Hot Air Balloon Lands in 18 X25 Backyard

Follow-up to an earlier story with a complete set of photos in Part 1 and Part 2.

Saturday night, July 19, was the last night of a local community festival called FunFest in Kingsport, TN. On this night, a hot air balloon race is held, along with a large outdoor concert and fireworks. My family was walking out of the house to go to the FunFest concert, and we heard a hissing noise. We looked down the street and saw a hot air balloon hovering over the road. Before we knew it the hot air balloon chase team drove around the corner, and the chase was on. Neighbors and locals in their cars followed the balloon up the road.  The driver was having a difficult time finding a space to land, because the neighborhood sits in a wooded area, so the balloon kept traveling up the road.  It finally was able to land in a small backyard, about 18 x 25 ft, of a house on the corner of Crestwood Dr. and Mountain Dr. The balloon driver quickly gave instructions to the chase team and the police officer. A big sigh of relief was heard when the balloon was successfully deflated, after nearly hitting several power lines and the house itself!  The chase, which began when I first saw the balloon to the time the driver had successfully landed, lasted about 20 mins!

I have attached photographs (in two parts), beginning with the first view of the balloon to the landing. I thought they were all interesting. It's not every day you walk out your house and get to see a hot air balloon land. Enjoy! :)
