This iReport is part of an assignment:
Hurricane Katrina, then and now |
Katrina Then and Now
The original photos were taken Jan 1, 2006 in the lower 9th ward. This was one of the hardest hit areas in New Orleans. There was a barge in the neighborhood that came through the levee breach from the Industrial Canal. All that was left was remnants of homes and pillars where houses used to sit. I returned on Aug 4, 2010 to retake some of the same pictures for the Katrina Then and Now project. Not much has changed overall except a few sporadic houses (some sponsored by Brad Pitt) amidst tall weeds and grass in empty lots. Some damaged homes still remain while other lots are now overgrown with grass where you cannot even find driveways or addresses.
