Outer Banks’ First New Oceanfront Condominium Complex in Nearly 20 Years Opens

Kill Devil Hills is the Site for First Flight Retreat Condominiums Kill Devil Hills, NC - July 22th 2008/First Flight Rentals/Press Release - First Flight Retreat Condominiums, the first ocean front condominium complex built in the Outer Banks of North Carolina in close to twenty years welcomed its first vacationers on July 12th. First Flight Retreat is located at Milepost 8.5 in Kill Devil Hills and offers travelers high-end accommodations and spectacular ocean views while being situated on a wide part of the beautiful Outer Banks beaches. The Outer Banks of North Carolina has witnessed a boom in new rental homes in the last ten years, with approximately 8,000 homes built in Dare County from 1996-2005. Yet due to strict zoning ordinances, few condos were built on the oceanfront in any of the beach communities from Nags Head to Corolla. In 2006, a zoning ordinance was approved by the Town of Kill Devil Hills that changed the oceanfront zone to a floor-area ratio constraint, rather than a per acreage limit. First Flight Retreat (http://www.firstflightretreat.com/) is located on the site of the old First Flight Inn, the latest Outer Banks mom-and-pop motel to be torn down and replaced with upscale housing. "These condos not only offer spectacular oceanfront views, but provide vacationers a high-quality living place with first-class resort amenities" noted Jeff Fabrikant of First Flight Rentals. Property amenities include a pool, spa, fitness center, game room, and balcony terraces. With the majority of the condo units already sold, most will be available for rental. First Flight Rentals (http://www.firstflightrentals.com/) will be renting the condos on a nightly and weekly basis, another first on the Outer Banks. "We're finding that people love visiting the Outer Banks but can't always take a whole week of vacation. People enjoy the flexibility of 3 or 4-night stays" adds Doris Ann Younts, Property Manager for First Flight Rentals. "We're excited to finally be able to offer single families the opportunity to buy and rent the quality, finish and amenities that we have seen for years in the large oceanfront rental cottages," remarked Younts. First Flight Rentals also is renting to small groups that want to stay at the same location and yet have their own private accommodations. Given that the price of an oceanfront lot is in the range of $1 - 1.5 million, most oceanfront homes built now have to be at least 6 bedrooms to justify the land cost. First Flight Rentals believes it is filling a void in the vacation rental supply for new, smaller oceanfront accommodations, which is confirmed by the strong advance bookings this season. About First Flight Retreat First Flight Rentals (http://www.firstflightrentals.com/) is the preferred rental company of First Flight Retreat, with the most units available for rental in the summer of 2008. It offers nightly and weekly stays, subject to nightly minimums in peak season. For reservations, call (866) 595-1893 or book online. First Flight Retreat Condominiums (http://www.firstflightretreat.com/) is the 3rd condo project by Carolina Resort Group, LLC. Sales inquiries should be directed to Matt Whelan of Village Realty (252) 202-2891. The builder for the project was McKenzie Construction Corporation of Virginia Beach, VA (http://www.mckenzie-construction.com/) in conjunction with R. M. Saunders General Contractor, Inc., of Kill Devil Hills, NC.
