Teacher's Role in Society...Are they Doing Enough?

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     mldepeine has been a middle school science and math teacher for 8 years. He says schools need to do more to help students deal with outside influences in their lives that make it harder for them to learn.
    - davidw, CNN iReport producer

Teachers get to see everybody that makes up our society.   A teacher will be proud when they see that the doctor down the street was in his / her fifth grade class.  They will be proud to see the newscaster and remark that "He was a talker when he was in my class, I see why."  So many teachers have had the privilege of that type of experience. Unfortunately, there are teachers who will say, "Wow, I didn't realize that he would have turned out to be a thief or a murderer."  Regardless of the success or failure the former student achieves, they at some point or another were influenced by a teacher.

A teacher is an integral part of our society.  What more can teachers do to pay their debt to society?
