    Teacher's Role in Society...Are they Doing Enough?


    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     mldepeine has been a middle school science and math teacher for 8 years. He says schools need to do more to help students deal with outside influences in their lives that make it harder for them to learn.

    Teachers get to see everybody that makes up our society.   A teacher will be proud when they see that the doctor down the street was in his / her fifth grade class.  They will be proud to see the newscaster and remark that "He was a talker when he was in my class, I see why."  So many teachers have had the privilege of that type of experience. Unfortunately, there are teachers who will say, "Wow, I didn't realize that he would have turned out to be a thief or a murderer."  Regardless of the success or failure the former student achieves, they at some point or another were influenced by a teacher.


    A teacher is an integral part of our society.  What more can teachers do to pay their debt to society?
