Bullying in America's schools |
Hard to Beat a Bully
From the sound of things, bullying is getting out of hand. I understand both sides of the issue in a way. I am no longer in school, but I do remember how it went. I was bullied right away in first grade. For some reason I was singled out by this kid who was held back a few grades. It was not fun. I feared recess, the thought of having him pick on me and beat me up for no reason always tormented my mind as the minutes ticked down. I was fortunate though and after a while one of my friends stuck up for me. At two against one he quit. Then I started to stick up for myself, it wasn't easy and I got beat up quit a bit, but determination and persistence paid off. I finally won a fight and that was all it took. I found out bullies only like to pick on the weak, beat them once and they do not like it. In high school I was made fun of for being fat. I hated the way I looked, and other kids pointing it out didn't help. I did what I learned in grade school, I fought back. No one is perfect, I learned to read people and pick away at their defects. As it turned out, they were ashamed of a feature they had, and liked to pick out the obvious on others to make themselves feel better. If that didn't work I would take it out to the parking lot and duke it out. Either way the teasing stopped. The problem is, is that not everyone has the will to stand up for themselves. They may believe it might get worse, or maybe they don't have the friends to back them. I was fortunate I had morale support, and kick ass friends who would step in when I needed them. In so many ways America has lost something it used to have. Men are only strong in a gang, pride lost out to ego, Honor is losing out to materialistic entitlement, self value is getting based on how you look and not what you are made of, and reality is getting confused with what you see on TV, the Internet and Video Games. Parents seem to give their kids an easy ride, in turn not letting them discover self dependence. I guess I only have a few quotes to offer, maybe they will help. "I don't care who you think you are, I just met you and right now my opinion of you is not that good" and "You are only a loser when you quit trying". In other words, No one is better than you and to prove it never let them see that they are getting the better of you. Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, Shouting "...Holy Shit....What a Ride."
