World Veg Festival in San Francisco (Oct 2 & 3)
Did you know that October 1 is World Vegetarian Day? The San Francisco Vegetarian Society will be holding its 11th annual festival - a full two day event - on Oct 2 & 3 (Sat/Sun), 2010 to celebrate. It was just April of this year that the city declared Mondays to be 'meat free'. And the event has had proclamations/certificates from the Mayor, Board of Supervisors and also from the State of California to honor the annual event.
"Being vegetarian is good for you, good for the animals, and very good for the planet" said Dixie Mahy, president of the San Francisco Vegetarian Society. She hopes the 'World Veg Festival' will cause more people to stop and think, and help them switch to a plant based diet with all the lectures, events, food tastings, and exhibitors all centralized in one place for a weekend.
Held at San Francisco Fair Building in Golden Gate Park, this year the event will be hosting a Vegan Fashion Show - a first for California, and perhaps a first for North America. Organized by Karine Brighten Events, it will be emceed by Rory Freedman (of 'Skinny Bitch' fame).
