This iReport is part of an assignment:
Bailout outrage |
How about surving at BELOW minimum wage!
Minimum wage? Hey, corporate America has discovered how to pay people BELOW minumum wage and how to do it legally.
Ever heard of "independant contractor" status? Here's how the little scheme works. You "hire" someone as an IC. You control what they do and how much you pay them. Then you make them pay for everything out of their pocket. The employee, opps sorry, independant contractor then pays for everything necessary to do the work. Things necessary to do the job like gas, tools, vehicle, insurance, administrative fees, etc. By the time the employee, darn sorry again, independant contractor gets done paying for everything he's lucky to make enough "profit" to pay for the gas to drive to work.
Like all good criminals, one thing you need to have to get away with your crimes is a good lawyer to help you steal. Any attempts to stop this practice is blocked in court by cleaver attornies working for the big corporations.
