The Queen of Strip-Tease: The Amazing, Angie Pontani

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     JoyfulGypsy has always found burlesque performer Angie Pontani to be very interesting so she went backstage at B.B. King Blues Club and Grill in Times Square to interview the star. 'I learned just how intelligent and hard working she is. She makes her craft look very easy and fun, but there are a lot of behind the scene things she needs to tackle and it takes a very special person to pull it off so flawlessly,' she said.
    - zdan, CNN iReport producer

The very lovely and super- talented, Miss Angle Pontani, is a contemporary burlesque dancer, choreographer, producer, costumer and all around smart cookie, based in Brooklyn, NY.  She has been shaking her tail feathers for as long as she can remember. She is a founding member of "The World Famous Pontani Sisters" and she is one of the most recognized and respected names in burlesque. She has been credited with helping to pioneer the new burlesque revival with her classic and classy approach to strip-tease.  She is one of the most prominent names and sought after solo burlesque performers working today.

Angie was crowned "Miss Cyclone" in 2007 in honor of the historic roller coaster, The Coney Island Cyclone. She is currently still the title holder and is very active in the fight to save Coney Island from re-zoning that would jeopardize the amusement district.  Most recently, Angie was also crowned "The Reigning Queen of Burlesque," the winner of the "Miss Exotic World" Pageant in 2008" at the Burlesque Hall of Fame Reunion at The Palms Hotel in Las Vegas.  Other awards include, "The Best Body in Burlesque" in 2007 at the New York Burlesque Festival, "Number One Burlesque Attraction in the Nation" - AOL.com, "Best New York Based Dance Company"- Show Business Weekly, "Hottest Burlesque Troupe" - Village Voice.

Angie performs all over the world, spreading the glamour gospel with every shimmy, bump-&-grind, high kick and eye trick.  Angie puts on a show unmatched in style, sass, class and costuming.

On Saturday, October 2, 2010, I had the pleasure of chatting with Angie in her dressing room at B.B. King Blues Club and Grill, in Times Square, just a couple of hours before she performed in the 8th Annual New York Burlesque Festival.

Here is to what she had to say...
