John Lennon at 70: The Fab Four Dedication Show in LA

Beatles fans from across California turned out Saturday night 10.9.10 to celebrate what would have been John Lennon's  70th birthday at Club Nokia at LA Live, the new Los Angeles City Center that is turning downtown LA into Times Square West.

To put it simply, this was one of the best tribute shows I have ever seen in my life. The Fab Four deviated from their usual hit Beatles lineup, in this once in a lifetime show, the music was all about Lennon.

From Abbey Road to Double Fantasy, the lads played not only the hits, but several rarities as well. There were several surprises as well, for example "Elton John" (Kenny Metcalf of the tribute band "Elton - The Early Years") came out to sing "Whatever Gets You thru the Night", from John's 1974 Album "Walls and Bridges". "Elton" also did his 1982 hit "Empty Garden", a song he dedicated to John Lennon after he was assassinated at The Dakota in NYC in 1980.

The best was saved for last: An unbeleivable version - with the white piano - of "Imagine / Give Peace a Chance". Many in the crowd were actually crying. Please watch the story to the end to see all of the photos.
