Your town's ghost stories
Mahasona = The Demon/Ghost of Sri Lanka
Mahasona was suppoed to be the ghost or demon of Sri Lanka. It is said that in ancient times during the reign of King Dutugamunu, there was a warrior called Mahasona, and one day two warriors of King Dutugamunu had a dual and one warrior kicked the head of the other so that it was broken at the joint thereby decapitating the other. The warrior who died was Mahasona, he was also a bear hunter, so when he died the people buried his body along with a bear head. This is the apperition that appears along with a black dog.
When this supposedly apperition appears or is seen by people, they see a black dog or sometimes this apperition strikes its victim and you see a hand print on the victim's body..
The apperition that appears is like that of a devil's face, and this mask could be seen in many antique shops that sell them.
Mahasona was the son of a man called Tissa in a village called Hiripupitva. Mahasona was said to be a very strong as a child and at age 7 could uproot trees. When the King heard of the power of this boy, he recruited him to his Army, so the story goes on.
The village of Bahirawakande, where I presently live in also has a story to say that in ancient times there was a demon called Bahira, thus the name of Bahirawakande. This demon was supposed to wait on top of the mountain and come down and catch his prey. He was known as the Demon of Treasures,
