Half-naked in the center of Times Square in front of thousands takes being in excellent shape.
For Cindy Fox being in shape and helping others get in shape has always been a priority.
Having grown up as "sort of a tomboy", according to her bio, she enjoyed skateboarding, and playing football with friends getting involved in cheerleading and gymnastics.
Later on she started conducting group fitness classes at a local gym, and even places 5th in the New Jersey Championship Bodybuilding.
On the short documentary "One Man Brand" by Lucy Nicholson and Jassim Ahmad she talks about meeting Robert John Burcke.
"Robert from the gym" would become known as The Naked Cowboy, posing and playing his guitar in his underwear for thousands in Times Square in New York City long before the pedestrian areas were put in place and becoming himself a tourist attraction. A romantic relationship developed between the two..
Burcke, who now owns the trademark to the Naked Cowboy/Cowgirl names, runs it as a franchise, with franchisees (Naked Cowboys and Cowgirls wannabe's) paying monthly or yearly dues to be able to use the name and perform in different cities around the country.
While Times Square has seen a few different Naked Cowgirls, like Sandy Kane, involved in court action with Burcke, and a younger cowgirl, making late night appearances in the square, Cindy calls herself "the official, licensed naked cowgirl".
"I'm the only one who signed the contract and mail the check", she told me on a recent afternoon on Broadway and 45th Street.
So for several hours a day, several days a week, commuters, locals and tourists gather around her, taking photos of the female version of what Burcke calls "the third most popular attraction in New York".
Cindy also runs her own fitness business, offers personal training for groups and individuals, has put out workout videos, and her own line of t-shirts are sold via the Internet.
Half naked in Times Square, cowboy boots, cowboy hat and a naked guitar.
Another slice of what makes the Apple big.
