UN envoy survives bomb attack
A convoy of UN envoy in Iraq Ad Melkert was hit by a roadside bomb. Melkert is unhurt. The bomb exploded a few vehicles behind Melkert.
According to Iraqi police, the attack killed one and three are wounded. It's unknown who's responsible for the attack.
Melkert was returning to Baghdad from Najaf. He met high Shiite spiritual Ali al-Sistani.
Shortly after the attack, Melkert spoke with Radio 1 in The Netherlands. He said the situation in Iraq is tense, because of the absence of a new government. There is a statement in the Iraqi politics since the two parties in elections in March were almost equal.
In 2003, UN envoy Sergio Vieira de Mello was killed in an attack on the UN office in Baghdad, along with twenty others.
