This iReport is part of an assignment:
Urban Planet: Time-lapse your city |
Driving in Washington, DC
For this time-lapse, I took a different approach by mounting two cameras to my car and then driving around town. I start off near my home in the DC suburbs out by Dulles Airport and then drive into the city, drive around downtown a bit, and then head back out of town.
Most time-lapse videos are from a fixed position and capture the movement around them over an extended period of time - I wanted to see what it would look like to have the camera moving at the same speed as well. All in all, I drove around for approximately 2.5 hours and the final video is around 3 minutes (I did trim out a few extended stops at traffic lights).
Technical details: I used two GoPro Hero HD cameras - one mounted on the front windshield and one on the back... then constructed the time-lapse by pulling every tenth frame from the videos. In post, I then adjusted the speed to give it a "fast-forward" look (and slowed it down a bit at certain points so people could see noted landmarks).
