CEO of SMG Doug Thornton Leads Media on Tour of Rebuilt Superdome In New Orleans
The Lousiana Superdome was opened for the first time on August 3, 1975 after several years of planning. It was nearly destroyed by the events of Hurricane Katrina and SMG CEO and Senior Vice President Doug Thornton put together a team that was able to get the building open just slightly after one year, for an NFL football game between the New Orleans Saints and the Atlanta Falcons.
On August 26, 2010 during a week of commemorative events for the fifth anniversary of Katrina, he offered tours to media to show the progress the building has made in that time, and discuss the events of Katrina. In the video, he proudly shows off the rebuilt stadium.
