America Votes 2010: Your election stories

    Election day experience 2010

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     tahoenative always votes via absentee ballot because of travel and to protect his vote he puts his 'ballot in a locking type of mailbox or a post office box. [He doesn't] put ballots (or any other outgoing mail) in unlocked mailboxes.'
    - sjunca, CNN iReport producer

I have not voted in a polling place since the early 1990s. Because I used to travel a lot, I established permanent absentee voting status in the early 1990s.

Before I used to vote absentee, I often put off figuring out the issues and went into the voting booth without having any idea what I was voting for. My votes were sometimes not well thought out.

Voting by mail forces me to decide my votes ahead of time, at home. This gives me the leisure to research the issues, read the voters' guides, and make better voting decisions.  This year, like in most elections, I voted on the Sunday before the Tuesday election and put my ballot in the mail on Monday morning.
