AIRPLANE EMERGENCY LIVE NOW
- yvonnezusel, CNN iReport producer
At around 8.55am WIB Indonesia (1.55am GMT) an engine cover from, allegedly an Qantas Airliner, blasted off it's hold and fell to the ground in Batam Island, Indonesia, specifically in the Golden Land Ruko area, close to the dense living area of Duta Mas, Batam Centre.
Some pictures taken of the debris, collected by police officers on a small truck, are attached. Clearly the curvature is seen, the honey-structure of the engine cover, and the colors white (outside) and blue (inside).
At this moment it is unknown which aircraft it was, but it was larger, according to witnesses, in the class of a Boeing 737/Airbus 320, the carrier operated by Qantas Airlines.
The airspace over batam Island is very crowded - it is on the approach of the major runway of Changi Airport, Singapore - by far the busiest airport in the region with over 500 landings daily. Batam island itself has one of the larger airports in Indonesia
Local Batam TV has video report on the aircraft. which is STILL FLYING and seems to have trouble to set the landing.
The airliner is a Qantas Airbus A380, flight Q32, which departed from Singapore earlier this morning. Just before noon Singapore time, it landed safely in Singapore, after dumping fuel over the Malacca straights sea, west of Singapore
