    KFC Happy kids meal toys

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     As a child, sunethra remembers flipping through her mother’s magazines and looking at the glossy advertisements for Kentucky Fried Chicken. So, when KFC opened a restaurant in sunethra’s hometown of Kandy, Sri Lanka, she made the trip to taste the food. While there, a set of Colonel Sanders toys caught her eye. 'Colonel Sanders always fascinated me. To me he was an iconic figure,' said sunethra. She began collecting the Colonel Sanders toys and shared her video that features four of them.

I used to frequent the Kentukcy Fried Chicken outlet at one time almost every other day.  KFC opened its first outlet in Colombo, Sri Lanka around 1997, and about two years later in Kandy.  I was the first to go there, having a liking for Colonal Saunders, having seen glossy pictures of him and the tempting looking fried chicken and french fries in my mother's magazines.  I remember droolling over those pictures, hence my flight to the newly open outlet in Kandy!!

At the begining they used to have these kids meals and issue a toy every week, but my eye always went to this set of toys which was Colonal Saunders himself dressed in different Nationality costumes and which toy played a different greeting of that country costume he was dressed in -  There was a lot of different countries but I managed only to collect four of them - cos each time I went to get a happy meal... the toys were sold out and I ended up in only four countries.

After finishing my meal of fried chicken and french fries, I would make a dash to the counter and showcase where they displayed the different costumed toys... and would just buy a kids meal to get at the toy!!! hehehe...and I was always impatient till they finished one country at a time, but that would take ages.... or when I did go again it was sold off, or finished or out of stock.

The story of Kentucky fried chicken and Colonal Saunders always facinated me, I don't think anyone knows the real story of Colonal Saunders and how he started his secret receipe of frying chicken much in Sri Lanka, they are more interested in eating here!!!  I happen to know about him because of my mother's books and pictures.

I think it is a good idea to have healthy foods for children and adults alike... ah! but however much I may preach or say to myself I must  refrain from eating fast foods,   I cannot resisit the temptation of having a meal of fried chicken, a burgher, or french fries once in a away...and of course most of all to collect a toy !!!
