Delays in investigation of American's death in South Korea
Photo: Sept 2, Mike with new puppy "Spot". She was a street rescue on exactly our first week in Korea. Mike was so happy to have his own dog. For the past four years, they were constant companions. When I began to pack away Mike's things... sorting out what would be donated to local orphanages and what would be boxed up & sent home... she realized that he wasnt coming back. She began to pine and refuse to eat. She became so emancipated I took her to the vet & spent a considerable amount keeping her in the animal hospital on fluid therapy. On July 12, 2 months and 2 days after Mike... she passed over. I've made arrangements to have her cremated with him... what else can I do?
*********************************
July 18th the US embassy was able to secure a verbal agreement from Dr. Lee of Ulsan (forensic doctor who did autopsy) to release the tissue slides for a second opinion.
I notified Dr. Kim (of International Clinic, Seoul National University Hospital, #1 in country) that Dr. Lee would release the slides to her care... but she must call to make arrangements.
From Friday July 18th until Wednesday July 23, Dr. Lee refused to answer his cell phone or return calls made to his office.
On the afternoon of July 23, the US embassy staff again intervined and was able to reach Dr. Lee. He claimed he was waiting on a formal request letter from Dr. Kim. uh huh
This information was immediately given to Dr. Kim, who called & spoke to Dr. Lee... BUT Dr. Lee was going on vacation and couldn't deal with this matter until August 1 when he returns. August 1st is a friday... and it's nigh near impossible to get a professional to come into the office on a friday...as this is golf day. So... end result... we'll eventually get the slides for the second opinion... but so far Dr. Lee has managed to delay it another two weeks to the tune of 720$ in morgue fees.
I have been requesting these slides since June 10th. It has been nearly 6 six weeks! It really is a matter of whether or not I can afford justice.
It's bad enough to lose a child... an only child... but to have to deal with the blatent disregard for common curtesy. If they're (police & "crime" lab) so confident their conclusions are correct... then why dont they give up the materials?
