Faces and voices of Hope for the Niger Delta region of Nigeria

Snap shot of my trip from Washington DC to Nigeria to spend a moment with Eric Obuh aka Vocal Slender and Joseph Orij both were featured in the controversial BBC documentary titled "Welcome to Lagos".

Irony of this documentary or of this report, both individuals are both from the Oil rich region of Nigeria known as the Niger Delta region  which happens to be the same place where the current President of Nigeria, President Goodluck  is from and my uncle is the Senate Chairman of appropriations of the Nation.

The pictures and the recorded interviews  above were shot in the dumbsite that was featured in the documentary.

In that one particular picture (with group of men in it) those are also folks from the Niger Delta region that chose to relocate to Lagos State to rather scavenge in the dumbsite than to be in their homeland of the Niger Delta region to be kidnapping.

Like Joseph said in the documentary, "I will rather look for a stinkier dumbsite to go and pick from so that I can provide a better life for my family rather than for me going into stealing or kidnapping". I couldnt hold back tears after I heard all these guys stories. Worst part, some of these guys are college graduates and they have been working in the dumbsite for roughly 5-7 years.

    P.s

Pls, search on Youtube "Niger Delta region"  "Dirty Oil Business in Niger Delta" and "Welcome to Lagos  Ep 1 [part 3/6] and "BBC. Welcome to Lagos. Ep 3 [part 5/6]" .
