    Guinea-Bissau

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     sdbaral, a faculty member at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, was in Guinea-Bissau in March on the one-year anniversary of the assassination of the country’s president. He's been working on a research project among vulnerable populations looking at HIV in West Africa. 'They are incredibly warm people undergoing very difficult challenges. The current government is working very hard, is really trying to clean things up and fix their infrastructure,' he said.

This is the former presidential palace in Bissau in Guinea-Bissau.  While this country is full of warm and generous people, it is also a major drug port into West Africa--and the drugs tend to get distributed across the African continent.  In 2009, the president and head of military were assassinated in nearly subsequent days related to a massive shipment of cocaine that went "missing".

Nonetheless, wonderful place to visit and work!
