Eyes More Powerful Than An Eagle's? It's Possible

Everyone thinks of birds of prey as having the most powerful vision in the animal world.  Raptors, or birds of prey, including the eagles, hawks and falcons are claimed to see up to 8 times more clearly than the sharpest human eye.  It is time to add another bird to list of species possessing exceptional sight. It is the beloved Bluebird.  I have studied Bluebirds for years and during my research have witnessed some amazing examples of keen eyesight.   Many times Bluebirds hunt from tree tops or a high perch. From these perches they spot tiny prey species from distances that are very impressive.  An eagle is able to see a rabbit from a mile away. Just as remarkable is a Bluebird picking a 1/2 inch larva or insect out of a lawn from 125 feet.  I have seen this take place and even with Leica 10x binoculars I could not see a small bug or worm in a lawn at this distance. There is no question they have exceptional eyesight. Possibly possessing 10X or even better binocular vision.  Having discovered this, I suspect there will be many other birds that will be added to the list of birds possessing incredible eyesight.
