Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Bach in the favela
While the news media are telling the world that Rio de Janeiro is nothing more than a war zone full of heavy-handed police and hardcore drug-trafficking criminals, ordinary people in the favelas are getting on with their ordinary lives. You might be surprised at what you can find in a Brazilian favela, as this Baroque string orchestra shows.
This is a two-minute video about the collaboration between Polish concert pianist Jozef Kapustka and the favela youth string orchestra Orquestra de Cordas da Grota. This is an early rehearsal of a Bach concerto for their upcoming concert at the Centro Cultural Justica Federal in central Rio de Janeiro on December 12th 2010.
