Trapped on Route 30 in Wanatah, IN

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     schealy says he has been stuck at a gas station on Route 30 in Indiana for at least 14 hours now after having been stopped on the highway last night. He says the staff at the gas station have been 'heroes,' having kept the store open to serve guests, and even opening up the closed Dairy Queen area to accommodate the trapped travelers, many of whom are parked in the parking lot and driving around when necessary to keep their alternators running. He says conditions were really rough and he's not sure when he'll be able to get going again. 'When we hit the lake effect snow, it suddenly took everyone by surprise. You could not tell what direction you were going. The blowing snow kind of gave the illusion that you were floating. It was very strange.'
    - nsaidi, CNN iReport producer

Were trapped on Rte 30 in NW Indiana since last night at 7:45 PM. Were stuck on highway behind jackknifed trailer, then hopped the median to drive back two miles to the Speedway gas station. There are at least 120 other people parked here or inside the station, where the same employees have tirelessly worked since yesterday afternoon (the replacement shift couldn't get here). The roadway is still littered with abandoned cars. Snow drifts and wind make this road impassible.
