This iReport is part of an assignment:
Your 'Aha' weight-loss moments
When you slowly put on weight over the years you adjust your perspective of yourself to where you don't really see yourself as others do. Sometimes it takes a moment or an event that makes you take stock of what you have done to your life and how you can go about making some positive changes.
Two events happened in 2007 that caused me to change the way I was living my life. The first event was a social meet-up at dinner with a group of close friends. At the restaurant we went to, I was unable to fit into the chairs. In front of my friends, I had to cancel dinner plans and I ended up going home and feeling miserable and sorry for myself. My size was preventing me from doing things that other people took for granted. Another event happened shortly after that in which a picture of me was taken and posted on an online forum. It was the most unflattering photo I've ever seen (the photo of me in profile wearing a blue shirt).
In September of 2007 I decided that I was going to lose weight and change my life. It would be a lie to say the process was easy as there have been many ups and downs during the time since then. Learning entirely new healthy habits took a long time.
It has taken me over 3 years but I am now at my goal weight of 185 pounds. My starting weight in 2007 was 446 pounds.
My life is so much better now and I can do things that I never dreamed was possible. I'm a runner now and plan to do my first marathon next year. I have more confidence and feel like I can do anything I set my mind to achieve.
