"God is" Billboard Replaces Atheist Billboard

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     JoyfulGypsy told me she travels the Lincoln Tunnel pretty frequently and just noticed that the old atheist billboard was gone, with a 'God is' sign erected in its place. A spokesman for American Atheists said the organization's lease ran out on the space, as they'd only had it reserved for a month. JoyfulGypsy told me that people on both sides of the issue are talking about this latest billboard, as well as the others that have been up. She says she's observed people arguing about it.

The Times Square Church responded to an atheist billboard near the Lincoln Tunnel declaring Christmas is a "myth" by replacing the controversial billboard with a new message of "God is..." describing God “in just a few of the infinite ways He proves His presence to us every day,” according to Senior Pastor, Carter Conlon.

I called the American Atheists, based in Cranford, New Jersey, to find out why their billboard had been removed and replaced with the new billboard and was told that their billboard rental had simply run out.

The billboard is located on Route 495, at Kennedy Bvd. (on the New Jersey side, right before entering the Lincoln Tunnel to Manhattan).

According to the Times Square Church's website, they would like to encourage people to seek God and prove that indeed He is.

The previous atheist billboard read "You KNOW it's a Myth"  "This Season Celebrate REASON" "* American Atheists  *Reasonable Since 1963 * atheists.org"
