Wish List: Overhaul the Current Tax Code
Mr. President, my hope for 2011 is that an effort be made to examine and overhaul the Tax Code in such a way as to ensure those of us in the so-called Middle Class are not shouldering a disproportionate percentage of taxes paid. While we may be the majority, those who are considered wealthy pay less; even a "flat tax" would be more fair than our current system.
Also in regard to taxation and specifically tariffs, we have allowed American production and jobs to be exported in such a massive way it is difficult to buy a product that doesn't come from the Peoples Republic of China. There needs to be a combination of tax incentives, higher taxes and tariffs combined in some way so as to ensure companies reinvest in American productivity, employment and innovation.
Our nation is suffering because we have been convinced paying taxes is a bad thing. Our jobs are gone, infrastructure is collapsing, the rich are becoming super-rich while my wages have stagnated for 10 years or more. This must change! Thank you.
