Life Cafe: 2010 Ends on Upbeat Note
- katie, CNN iReport producer
Just as the revelers in Times Square were gearing up to welcome in the New Year, Kathy Kirkpatrick and her husband, John Sunderland, arrived home, happy to be back on U.S. soil after a well deserved but ultimately exhausting holiday trip to the U.K. They had spent happy days with family, welcomed a new grandchild and walked the history laden streets of Yorkshire.
As the owner of Life Cafe in New York's East Village and the newer Life 983 in Bushwick Brooklyn, Kathy Kirkpatrick experienced a bumpy and at times frustrating 2010. Now, at close to midnight, it was finally coming to a close...
What does 2011 hold for Kathy and for Life Cafe? In this interview Kathy shares some encouraging news about a good end to a tough year and, perhaps, a great beginning for 2011.
I have been following Kathy Kirkpatrick and her Life Cafe in the East Village for the past year. We've seen the ups and downs, the joys and frustrations of trying to keep your head above water when the economy would just as soon drown you. She has weathered the tumultous economic situation with good humor, optimism and true grit. I wish her well in the New Year and thank her for having the courage to lay bare before my camera the heartache and rewards of running a business in the Big Apple.
