CNN PRODUCER NOTE     hewart says snow fell on January 20 and he and his wife went outside the next day to find spectacular hoarfrost formations outside. He helped his wife put this collection of photos together. 'I noticed some strange snow formations on some of the trees. It looked like snow but more fuzzy. When she stepped into the back yard, the crystal formations just stood out. She had the wrong lens on the camera and had to run back into the house to change it out. She got so cold, she had to make several trips to get all the shots. By the time the sun had been out for a couple of hours, all the crystals were gone. They were so delicate that even a slight breeze would cause them to break.'

01/20/2011 Memphis Tn had a strange snow storm. The front moved in as misting rain with temps above freezing. That slowly changed over to snow. The end results was this cool ice crystal formations. My wife Martha Ewart took these in our back yard. The correct term for this is hoarfrost. We had to share these natural wonders as they appear to be rare.
