    Chicago blizzard 2011: winds died down but snow persists

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     dddane says driving conditions are not good at the moment. 'Not only are side streets not plowed, the intersections at some are impossible because of snow banks.'

    Near Belmont Harbor, last night was a lot of wind and the snow blew west. Today the winds have died down so the snow is really blizzard-like.

     

    Lake Shore Drive continues to be closed with nothing but tow trucks going both ways on both sides.

     

    CTA is running buses down inner LSD but it seems very few and each is followed closely by its own CTA van escort.

     

    Police continuously posted at corner, waiting for city crews to attend to a down light pole.
