This iReport is part of an assignment:
Did Congress do enough? |
It's time we remember.
I think it is time we remember how this country was built. Politicians, no matter what their party are not the ones that create, they just take. The beauty of the political system in this country is that the power can rest in the hands of the people. It is time that the people exercised that power collectively and let the career politicians know that we are not interested in the status quo, and that come this next election they will not be safe in their respective positions.
I read in these iReports how people are dissatisfied even angry with the lack luster performance of our elected officials - many of whom have been in congress for the vast majority of their working life. The politicians are publishing books, making good deals for themselves, and fattening their own bank accounts on power brokering, while the rest of the country is struggling to put gas in their tanks and a descent meal on the table.
I myself, think it is time for a change. I can see myself voting for any newcomer to the process since the career Washingtonians don't give a hoot for us. Maybe this is the wrong attitude - but I don't know how else to get a message to these people.
I tried writing to the Florida state senators, Mel Martinez and Bill Nelson, along with congress woman Ginny Brown-Wait - I got no response from Martinez or Nelson - not even a stock e-mail that said we got your letter and don't care to reply. From Brown-Wait - I got a poorly written stock e-mail that showed the contempt that most politicians have for their constituents.
I, myself will vote differently than any other year I have voted I am fed up with the government of the people being continually run by a few people who care more for themselves and their cronies than they do for the other 299,999,000 people living in this great country.
