    Surviving a brain tumor

    Owyn Tyler (PMA Brain Tumor)

Hi.. My name is Owyn Tyler.. I am a 4 year old little boy, that was diagnosised with a Pilomyxoid Astrocytoma on September 5, 2006 deep in the center of my brain and in my Optic Pathway along with severe Hydrocephalus. I was admitted into Children's Hospital Boston for emergency surgery on that day and went through an 11 hour brain surgery on that Friday. I then underwent another surgery to have a port placed in my chest so I could get chemo. Within a month I began a trial of chemo therapy that consisted of 70 weeks of infusion treatments of Vincristine and Carboplatin along with a oral chemo Temadar that I took at home.. I was sick during my treatment and had to take a lot of medicine so that I could feel better.. I also have a few medical problems now from the chemo that I needed. My stomach hurts alot and my vision is effected from my tumor. I made it through though and just finished my chemo in Febuary of 2008. I had my port removed just in June 2008. I have to go for scans every three months because there is a 2/3 chance my tumor with begin to grow again.. There is little research being done on the type of tumor I have and lots of my friend that I have made at clinic are not doing as well as I am.. I am a very smart and happy boy, but I do have some trama from all the things that I have gone through.. I don't want to leave my mommy's side for anything, but as long as she is there I am good! I enjoy doing all the things that a normal 4 year old would do and I don't even look like I have a tumor growing in my brain.. I love to go to the beach and jump in the waves, and play the wii. Thank you for reading my story.. I have a web page that is www.caringbridge.org/visit/owyntylerlaw
