The worst vacation ever |
The 80K Biggest Mistake Ever
So this one is a good one.
Myself and 2 of my friends came into some money. We had been researching purchasing a tour bus. We didnt want to spend more than 50k and had been searching awhile.
We found an older bus, but it looked great. 12 bunks, living room, back entertainment room, bathroom and all.
I made several calls to the other owner asking all the questions one would ask before purchasing anything, especially anything of that value.
For those of you who dont know. A bus can go typically from 100k into the millions.
The owners, a super hardcore christian family, (this has nothing to do with ones faith, but more to do with feeling you can trust people more in certain circumstances) told us, "the bus is in great condition, just some cosmetic work needed, engine is rebuilt, all ready to go.
We fly from California to Joplin, Joplin to Springfield Missouri, the home of Brad Pitt and possibly the Simpsons hah. Anyhow, we arrive and there she is, the bus, in all her glory.
They have it outside the diesel place and assured us, she is ready to go.
We got the agreement and money ready and made our transaction. It was glorious for us, because we kept thinking, man, we are going to take this thing all over the USA with our friends, seeing the country, this is going to be great.
We start driving back to California and an hour out of Springfield, we start smelling fuel. The fuel line is leaking diesel very badly and it starts sketching us out.
We pull off, and get it quick fixed. The owners say "wow, that never happened to us"
We keep on our way and wouldnt you know it, an hour from there, all of power goes out. We start driving by flashlight till we could pull off. We sleep in the bus till light.
We take it to a bus company who says the connection between the generator is conflicting and the power will be off and on, but they couldnt work on it since they were full.
We continue to break down for a week and a half on the entire way home. We knew that we were fucked.
We called the owners basically telling them, "what the f&^% did you sell us?!?!?"
They were very apologetic and didnt know what the problem could be because "it worked just fine when they had it"
We were able to get things up to par somewhat to keep it basically able to run and we were on a deadline so we told the previous owners, we were coming to Springfield and they were going to look at this themselves.
We get an hour outside of Springfield and it breaks down. We have to get towed to Springfield where were lived in the bus for a week. Thanks to the awesome people at Dominoes Pizza, they felt bad for us and would bring us pizza and sodas in which we trades CD's and Merchandise.
The next day, the engineer came out and said, "its going to be 15,000$ to fix."
We absolutely shit ourselves. 15k????
They said WE burnt out the engine... A NEW ENGINE???? How???
We worked with the old owners who offered to pay 11k of it but said, if we do this, your signing a paper that says we cannot be sued.
We asked the engineer, if this gets fixed, will the bus be good.
He said, i am not allowed to speak on behalf of the entire bus, but the engine will be great and you will be able to run this baby into the ground.
Well... the engine was great but guess what happened next. We get to Florida.... breaks go out, tire pops, tires need to be bought and this came out to over 3k.
Basically this bus is the biggest piece of shit, and the biggest mistake, worst "vacation" trip to pick it up and take it on a vacation.
It now sits in Elks Grove where we are trying to sell it because we dont want to deal with it anymore. Now its actually in good enough condition for someone to buy and do whatever things they want to it, but we are so traumatized we never want to deal with it again.
Guess who used to own it?
Garth Brooks. Can you believe. His friends in low places didnt come to our aid but one day on the road when we broke down, guess who did. Dave Mathews' bus driver. Great guy!
Lessons Learned here...
Never assume you can ever trust anyone who is trying to sell you something
Good deals always have a catch
Never sign a contract that waves your right to sue
Stay away from ever buying a bus haha.
Yes, we lost of alot of money, but then again, we make alot of money, not that it makes it ok, but there are losses in life, and gains, and my life does not revolve around money, meaning, money does not dictate happiness, and in this case, money made our life hell!
