    Itsukushima Shrine torii gate, Miyajima

This is a slightly different perspective of Itsukushima Shrine’s famous floating torii gate taken from a street behind and above the shrine.  The island is about an hour outside of Hiroshima and is reached either by a short train or streetcar ride and a connecting ferry. Make sure to check the tides before you go; the only way to get a good picture of the gate is at high tide (the rest of the time, it’s a mud flat and you can walk out to the gate from the shrine).
