Rwandan gorillas
Taken during a trip in October 2007 to the Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, it was my privilege to get to see a group of these magnificent creatures. After a 40 minute trek into the jungle, we came across the first of the group, a male who had lost his hand. Moments later, the big male silverback started to move past us with several females, babies clinging to their backs, in tow.
We got to see them at their best, playing and relaxing in a sunny clearing. When it was time to go, the group moved down the hill, right in front of us. I was about 4 feet away from the silverback and I was amazed at the depth, intelligence, and emotion that the gorillas can convey in their eyes. So much like us...
