This iReport is part of an assignment:
The 83rd Academy Awards
83rd Oscars Review: To Hip To Be Square?
The Oscars were trying to be like the Lady Ga Ga Grammy's: Let's try to be young and hip. But with the combo of James Franco and Anne Hathaway as hosts, it fell flat. Anne did her best, but Franco seemed dazed and confused.
Most of the jokes were not that funny. And the producers made the mistake at the beginning of ripping off Billy Crystal, inserting the hosts into the nominated films.
They tried to make the stage set-up look like the Hollywood Bowl, but it seemed too small, and too deep. The musical numbers were not sang in full, they were cut off.
The "In Memoriam" Piece was well done, but you had to feel bad for the legendary Kirk Douglas, who had a tough time with his presentation due to an earlier stroke. This led to the worst moment, with Justin Timberlake's ill timed joke at Douglas's expense.
Let hope for big improvements next year.
