5 Parades Roll in New Orleans with Anderson Cooper as Endymion

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     ladimaggio says Saturday's gloomy weather did not hamper Sunday's festivities in Metairie, Louisiana. Cheering crowds gathered to watch the parade pass, but ladimaggio says the highlight for her was seeing Ander Cooper on one of the floats.

This past Sunday in New Orleans was the biggest day for parade-goers!!  Endymion, which usually rolls on Saturday night, had to be rescheduled due to heavy rain and high winds.  It was rescheduled to follow Bacchus, which rolls on the Sunday night before Mardi Gras.  Including the three day parades, people stood all along St. Charles Ave all day and night to watch all five parades!

Actor Andy Gracia reigned as King of Bacchus, which had the theme "Bacchus Salutes America's Greatest Generation."  At Gallier Hall where the mayor of New Orleans always toasts the kings and queens, were also 150 WWII veterans.  All the floats were based on the theme and some even had vets on board or pictures of vets on the side of the floats.

The best part of the night for me was the long awaited and CNN's own, Anderson Cooper!!!  I had been counting down the days until he rode.  When the storm came in and Endymion had to be rescheduled, the countdown was extended.  I was stationed on a stand at Serio's Deli on St. Charles Ave one block off Canal St.  I was not going to leave my spot until I saw Anderson!  Once Bacchus ended, the stand cleared with just a few people left.  We had about 30 minutes to wait until Endymion arrived.  It was getting cold and our legs were really hurting, but I would not even go to the restroom.  Finally the time had arrived.  At 11:00pm Anderson Cooper passed right in front of me and I was able to get a cup from him!  I was satisfied and could now leave to head home.  I did not even see Kelly Ripa or her husband, Mark.  I was only focused on Anderson.  You would have thought Elvis had been on that float by the way I was acting.  I was just so excited to see him!!!

Thank you Anderson for all you do and continue to do for our city!!!
