Broken neck, Amazing Recovery from Partial Jefferson Fracture

I suffered a broken neck in February 2010.  After 1 year of being in a neck brace, the vertebre C-1 has mended together.

Every doctor I received an opinion from said I needed fusion and it would not heal.  Even the specialists at Mayo Clinic said it would not heal.

I refused fusion because I am a scientist, I understand the working of the human body and its repair capability.

    Well.....THEY WERE WRONG!

My neurosurgeon was amazed and released me with my neck brace off.  He was so impressed with this result that he is recommending new protocols for more conservative treatment of neck injuries.

So, this tells all of us that medical doctors simply "Practice" medicine.  They are not all knowing and anyone who thinks they are has serious mental problems.

Just think, the surgery was almost $50000 to fuse C-1 to C-2 and I saved the insurance company all that money and more.  Now you may be wondering why I would try to save the insurance company money, well it is simple, THIS TYPE OF SURGERY IS NOT NECESSARY in all cases of a broken neck.

I think this is the problem with medical costs, people get to many surgeries that are not necessary only a convienience to maybe get that neck brace off quicker.

We need to be more conservative in our surgical operations and evaluate the patients more thoroughly.

I think the insurance companies should offer people 20% of the cost of a surgery if it is not absolutely necessary and an injury the body can heal in a reasonable time.  This would save insurance holders money on premiums and would cut the costs of medicine dramatically.  Stop worrying so much about making money please Doctors, the human body can heal itself quite well, so doctors should not be revered so highly since they are just "Practicing" medicine!!!!!!
