NYC I-95 Pedestrian Bridge Collapse
At around 2AM on August 8, a tractor trailer truck hit a pedestrian
walkway over I-95 south, which brought it crashing down onto the
hightway, and toppled trailer. The truck cab stayed upright, and
the truck and the cab came to a stop just a few feet after the
bridge, with the bridge on top of the trailer. Traffic stopped
immediately, and it appears that no one was hurt. I wasn't able to
confirm the safety of the driver of the truck. Traffic was stopped
by police going northbound, apparently due to worries about the
integrity of the remaining section of the bridge. The bridge
remained intact over the northbound portion while I was there, as
did the ramp leading up to the bridge. There appeared to be a wire
or cable stretching accross the road from a lamp post to the truck,
which stopped pedestrians from crossing over from the northern side
of the accident to the southern side. Emergency vehicles were able
to access the accident from both side, but we were there watching
it for about 10 minutes before they showed up.
The accident ocurred around Waterbury Ave on i95, at the
footbrige in the Bronx, near exit 7A.
Warning, the audio portion of the video file contains an
explitive.
Also, please excuse the duplicate post. Something about my last one didn't work, not all media files worked.
