The worst vacation ever |
Seriously....
My family decided to take a vacation together for my parents anniversary. We went to a gorgeous resort in Puerto Vallarta. We had the penthouse and another 2 bedroom villa. We were treated as royalty. The first day was travel day and totally uneventful. Day 2 was great we laid by the pool all day and went to a wonderful fiesta put on by the resort. On day 3 things started to go downhill. My fiance woke up with a mild toothache. It was an off and on mild pain throughout that day and the next. By day 5 he was unable to eat or lay down or even talk. We contacted his dentist back home who advised us to get some antibiotics and pain medication to get him through the rest of the week. They didnt help at all. by the next day one whole side of his face was swollen. the hotel doctor tried several different pain medications and nothing work. he ended up having to get a root canal on day 6 (a scary thing in mexico when u cant speak spanish!).
While he was getting that done I had gone on a snorkeling trip with my 11yo, my dad, and my brother. The "snorkeling" trip turned out to be 30 minutes of snorkeling in murky water then being dumped onto a beach with no services. At this point I'm starting to get sick and there is no shelter from the sun. We made the best of it and thankfully my son had a great time. In attempt trying to leave the beach early we ended up in a small village along the water waiting for a bus. We got lucky and ran into some Americans with a car who offered to take us the 1 1/2 hour back to our resort. While it was a long ride squished in the back of a jeep with my son on my lap we were very thankful to them! We got back to the hotel with out further incident nd found out the root canal was very successful and the pain was gone (thank god!!!)
Feeling much better the next day my fiance decided to join my dad and my son and I on a canopy tour (zipline tour). The company we went through was widely recomended and my dad had done this specific tour a few years before and love it. We were picked up by a wonderful bus driver named louise. It was an open air bus ride about 2 hours into the jungle. everyone was very excited so the atmosphere was great. We drive until literally the road runs out and then we keep driving until the dirt ends as well. There is a restaurant on the river and a exotic animal exhibit. The location is gorgeous! We were in the middle of getting geared up for the tour when the guides started screaming for us to run. They were saying there had been an accident but we didnt believe them. We were rushed down the hill and around a bend and left standing in the middle of a dirt road with about 40 other tourist. It was about 95 degrees and we had no water or shade. After standing there for about 30 min the Policia start showing up. We finally got the stroy of what really happened. The bandits had come out of the jungle in attempt to rob people and our bus driver had tried to fight them of. They shot him in the head and killed him. They sped us back down the mountain (and when I say that I mean they REALLY sped down the mountain) and dropped us off one by one back at our hotels. Our hotel was the farthest north so we ended up being on the bus for 3 hours. My 11yo was very upset about the loss of louise and was calling him a hero. We were very thankful that we were not hurt and made it safely back to the hotel.
We left as scheduled the next day. On the way home my Fiance and my son started not feeling very good. with in 2 days of being home they were both and the doctor being told they had ecoli. they spent the next 10 days on a bread and water diet and very miserable. My mom and I were also sick but not nearly as sick as them.
Needless to say it was not the vacation of my dreams but it did give my son alot of stories to tell at school!
