Hundreds of movie goers and machinima enthusiasts from both the cyber and real worlds are set to arrive in Second Life August 9, 2008 to see the original and the creative in Virtual World filmmaking at Monogram Virtua's Short This is Monogram Virtua's eighth virtual event in a series of aficionado based cyber world shows designed to bring the members of various Second Life communities together. The idea for the Short Film Festival came our of Monogram Virtua Co-Founder and filmmaker Randall Rubin's search for experienced machinamists in Second Life to help create a short promotional film to support his efforts as a producer. While in the cyber world, Monogram Virtua's Marketing Director (SL name Anakalia Catteneo) contacted hundreds of Real Life and Virtual producers, film students, About the Special Guests Dan Keston (SL Name DanKeston Magic) is a member of a select group of producers with the financing experience to understand the complex independent film model and the production experience to execute projects successfully within it. He began his financial career at Universal Pictures developing "greenlighting" models to forecast box office, DVD, and market viability of upcoming films then spent six years writing and producing commercials to learn the hands-on requirements of production. In 2005, Dan returned to film as an independent producer with "Weapons," which was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival and sold to Lions Gate theatrical unit After Dark Films. Subsequently, Dan produced the theatrically released Val Kilmer, Stephen Dorff feature project "Felon," for Sony Worldwide, receiving stellar reviews in publications from Variety to The New York Times. Keston also packaged and produced "Norman" with the Endeavor agency. Currently, Dan is preparing "Keep Coming Back," William H. Macy's directorial debut, for a late 2008 start. Jimmy Diggs (SL Name: JimmDiggs Lorefield) has written more episodes of "Star Trek" than any other freelance writer in the history of the franchise. Often referred to as the "Jackie Robinson of Star Trek writers," he is also the only writer to have two episodes of "Star Trek," from two different series, debut air in the same week. A Vietnam veteran and former San Diego firefighter, Jimmy came to screenwriting later in life. After being invited to pitch television shows such as lost, Jimmy is now focusing on the movie industry and has optioned his first feature film: a Gothic Horror/Western titled "Sundown." In the virtual world, Dude As In Cool co-manages Beatking.com, an online music community. In his real life, DAIC is an active manager/producer in the film industry. In a former reincarnation, he initiated and co-administrated the Spotlight Awards, a showcase of UCLA Student Films for the entertainment industry for many years. John Schroder (SL Name: Carson Lockjaw) was born in Mt. Kisco, New York and raised in Florence, Kentucky. Schroder studied film and television at Eastern Kentucky University before starting his writing/producing career in New York City. Jon began working as a production assistant for Nickelodeon in 1996 and has since gone on to work as a writer, producer, director, and location manager on various film and television productions. Most recently, he co-wrote, directed and produced JIMMY AND JUDY, starring Edward Furlong and William Sadler, with creative partner Randall K. Rubin.
