Demonstrations in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia
Another update from Melissa in Tbilisi.
Patriotic demonstrations in Tbilisi, capital of the Republic of Georgia on the night of August 8-9, 2008. These demonstrations could be found at the Russian Embassy, the Parliament, and in Freedom Square at the City Hall. All demonstrations were peaceful and Georgian flags and displays of patriotism were prominent.
**UPDATE: There have been demonstrations each night in the capital since August 8. Tonight, August 10, an estimated 15,000 to 30,000 are gathered off of Rustaveli Square in central Tbilisi and have been there for many hours. The news is being shown on a big screen and those gathered are draped in Georgian flags, holding candles, and waving banners and signs, many saying "Stop Russia" or "Peace."
