Native American Songbird Scheduled to Sing National Anthem

After Christina Aguilera's slaughter of the National Anthem  the TY Murray Invitational was cautious in selecting their next National Anthem singer for their sold out event.

If there is anything taken more seriously than the US flag, it's possibly the national anthem. The Star Spangled Banner is sung at just about every major American function, and at major sporting events a significant honor is bestowed on those asked to sing what is probably the best known national anthem in the world. Listen closely to the words and it tells of a highly emotional moment in US history when the war with the British was being fought and of one man's relief in seeing the US flag still flying after a vicious bombardment.

More and More singers get away from the true meaning of this beautiful and difficult piece of music. Instead of focusing on the true meaning vocalists try to put in as many "licks" which are phrases which can be altered so that they can be used over a song's changing harmonic progressions.

A sold out crowd of 23,000 People will be in attendance Saturday March the 26th at the University of New Mexico Arena "Pitt" in Albuquerque. They want no vocal "gymnastics" , they want it sung with patriotic feeling the way it's meant to be sung.  "Our crowds like to also sing along".

What’s more American than Native American Songbird "Victoria Blackie", as she has been selected for the honors.  She has been singing the National Anthem for hundreds of events.  Her extended voice of more than 3 octave range offers a powerful rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner".  A recording with her interpretation was sent to the PBR for TY Murray Invitational and she received a quick "yes" response.  This recording is circulating amongst more than 5,000 fans on Facebook and Reverbnation.

All ears are on this petite 5' tall power house to deliver what the TY Murray Invitational officials and the audience wants to hear.  Congratulations and good luck to Victoria Blackie.
