    Memories of Elizabeth Taylor

    More from howco1952

Elizabeth Taylor 1993 by Stephen B Whatley

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     'I was fascinated with her as a classic beauty from the golden age of hollywood,' says howco1952, an artist who's created many images of Elizabeth Taylor. 'I was very touched by her compassion, aside from her films, for the AIDS crisis. And I decided to reach out myself, personally, and started to create some cartoon tributes for her. She personally wrote to me regarding the card I made for her 60th birthday.'
    - rachel8, CNN iReport producer

British expressionist artist Stephen B Whatley painted this tribute to the beauty and compassion of Elizabeth Taylor in 1993; inspired by photographs from that period.

The oil painting (30 x 24in) was exhibited in the artist's 1993 exhibition Hollywood Gold at London's Royal National Theatre - a show celebrating the glamorous legendary ladies of Hollywood's Golden Age, through Whatley's iconic portraits.

The painting was bought by a private collector that year.

"I am touched and honoured to be invited by CNN to share this painting on this sad - but merciful in terms of her release from pain - day of the passing of Elizabeth Taylor.

As a teenager I received a signed photograph; and later as a professional artist , I reached out and created cartoon tributes as gifts of the star with her husband Larry & little dog Sugar - which delighted her.

As a Christian I feel certain Elizabeth is glittering again in heaven with her true love Richard Burton...& God." ~ Stephen B Whatley, London, UK, March 23, 2011
