Make-A-Wish Australia Benefits from Hall of Fame Grand Opening

Second Life resident Bringiton Paine started building her tribute to live musicians on July 5. One month later, she is hosting 34 hours of live music and a charity benefit that trumps even the most established virtual world events. By 10:30 PM SLT on August 9, Bringiton had raised L$259,704 for Make-A-Wish® Australia. Having surpassed her original goal of L$250,000, the Aussie SL resident will gain matching funds from Woolworths, the largest supermarket chain in Australia. Bringiton's husband is a Woolworths employee. He'll help her convert the donations to Australian dollars, make the donation through the official Web site and coordinate matching funds.

"Make-A-Wish is my charity of choice because these kids can't wait for a cure. Most of them will be long gone before their cure is discovered. They need something to look forward to now," she emphasized. Bringiton's brother lost an infant years ago. It taught Bringiton "the value of a child and not to take moments with them for granted." Bringiton's fundraising complements another SL effort for Make-A-Wish.

The executor of Yonder Land Trust, SL resident Yonder Doesburg runs a donation parcel on Iris as a volunteer for Make-A-Wish Foundation of America. Each real world country has its own Make-A-Wish entity and Bringiton's event will specifically benefit children in Australia. When asked about Bringiton's activities, Yonder replied, "I think it is great that other people are promoting Make-A-Wish."

A fan of live music since joining Second Life in 2007, Bringiton enjoyed hearing SL performers Paisley Beebe, Jaggpro McCann, Niles Compton, Lou Mannock, Jon Bazar and Blue4u Nowicka. Bringiton learned that she loved different styles of music that she hadn't heard before SL, but her "inability to tip made me feel slack, so I became loud trying to show vocal appreciation, TPing friends in and sending notices trying to support the artists in other ways so I could feel like a valuable part of the audience." Gia's Music Hall Of Fame is another contender in the music tribute venue category. Its walls were built on May 24, 2008. Bringiton donated L$137 to support its founder, Jenny Heying.

Bringiton spends an average of 7 to 10 hours a day working on details for her Music Hall of Fame. Between gathering pictures and bios for over 200 artists, rounding up links to over 100 live music venues and tweaking architectural details of the hall, she and her husband are raising three young children. Her dedication has paid off. Currently, Bringiton's Hall of Fame is listed in Linden Labs' Showcase for music locations and her land traffic statistics have pushed the hall to in-world hot spot status. Bringiton's future plans include featuring artists of the month, as voted on by the Second Life community, and of course, hosting more fundraisers as time permits.
